THE RAY JILEK FAMILY
The Ray Jilek family lives three miles east and one mile north of Dickinson in Sec. 29-140-95 at a place called Sunset Valley Ranch. Ray is the son of Joe F. (deceased) and Hattie (Jablonsky) Jilek, both of whose parents immigrated to North Dakota from Europe. Joe and Hattie started farming one mile north of Versippi School in the spring of 1928 and while living there they had a daughter Della, (Mrs. Victor Kadrmas) and a son, Ray. In 1948, they moved and expanded their farming operations to another farm in Dunn County, where they farmed until 1951, when they purchased a part of this Sec. 29-140-95, which they farmed until 1956, when they moved into Dickinson and sold that portion of land to their son, Ray.

In 1952, Ray married Kathryn Roshau and they have three boys and two girls: Wanda, Randy, Raymond, Joyce, and Ryan. The farm was gradually changed from a diversified dairy to specialize in cattle feeding and finishing while completely rebuilding the farmstead and expanding the acreage to 1, 422 plus some leased land, and finally developing Sunset Valley Ranch which includes son, Randy.
Kathryn is the daughter of Carl J. (deceased) and Margaret (Boespflug) Roshau. Carl was the son of immigrant parents while Margaret came to this country at the age of 10. They farmed and ranched in Dunn Co. where Carl served as county commissioner for many years and their family consisted of eight daughters and six sons. They retired into Dickinson in 1962.
