ADAM KRAUTER FAMILY
Adam Krauter was born June 7, 1923 in Stark Co. five miles southeast of Lefor, N.D. In Nov. 1928 my parents moved to a farm 12 miles northeast of New England, N.D. I attended a rural school, walking a distance of one and a quarter miles every day. The dust storms of the 1930's were worse than some of the winter blizzards we had during the days when my brothers and I received our elementary education.

In the fall of 1937 a decision had to be made, whether my brother Peter and I were to enter high school or try to further our education by taking some correspondence courses offered by the State Department of Public Instruction. St. Mary's High School at New England had the most and best offer Room and board that first year cost $9.00 per month I completed my high school education by graduating from St. Mary's in the spring of 1941.

On June 3, 1946 Ann Grundhauser and I were married at St. Elizabeth's Church of Lefor and have been a parish member since that time.

Ann Grundhauser was born in St. Paul, Minn, on Feb. 24, 1924. Her parents are Mike and Christine (Schiff) Grundhauser In the fall of 1926 Mike Grundhauser returned to the Grundhauser homestead farm, where Ann attended school at Lefor.

Ann and I started farming in 1946 and have continued this profession to the present time. We own and operate a family farm nine miles south and three miles west of Lefor in Hettinger Co.
Our family consists of Adam P. Krauter, Minneapolis, Minn.; Ardella (Krauter) Larson, Fargo, N.D. and Aaron Krauter attending Mary College at Bismarck, N.D.

I served on the Rifle Township board of supervisors for 18 years, and a member of the board of the Iowa Common School district for six years. Besides being a member of the Elks and Eagles, I am a past Grand Knight of St. Elizabeth's Council 5477 of Lefor, N.D. and a past Faithful Navigator of the Fr. Gregory Borski 4th Degree Assembly Presently I am serving on the board of directors of the Farmers Union Oil Co. of Regent, N.D. On Nov. 2, 1976 I was elected to the N.D. State Senate to serve on the 45th Legislative Assembly of the North Dakota Legislature.
