JACOB AND MAGDALINA REICH FAMILY
Jacob and Magdalina Reich came to America, 1897, from southern Russia on the Queen Mary.
They brought their seven children to a homestead near Eureka, S.D., spring 1898. Their first
home was a long sod dwelling which housed the family and the live-stock.

The Hosmer prairie country was very stony land and there was a general water shortage. Winter
1903 was especially difficult because of the tremendous amount of snow. Drifts were so high
only the chimney of the house stuck out. In 1905 Jacob, his son Jake, and his daughter Mary,
came by team and wagon to a place southeast of Richardton along the Antelope Creek. The
water supply encouraged this homestead site. The next problem was to load machinery, animals,
furniture and family into a railroad boxcar to move from Hosmer to Hebron. Frame buildings
were constructed on this homestead.

Each of the five sons received 160 acres of land from his parents when they were ready to begin
farming for themselves. The father, Jacob, was called home May 1, 1940, age 77. Magdaline
Reich was called home March 15, 1920, age 57.

Katie, the oldest, married Phillip Reiger. They farmed west of Hebron. They later moved to
Oregon where Katie passed away, 1950. Phillip passed away in 1964 in Lodi, Calif. They had 15
children.

Jacob married Emma Jose. They farmed southeast of Richardton. They had six children. They
moved to Lodi, Calif., 1937, where Emma passed away, 1960. Jacob still resides in Lodi.
Fred married Adelina Imhoff. They farmed together south of Antelope till 1943 when they
moved to Hebron. 1946, they moved to Lodi, where Fred became a mason until his retirement,
1965. Lena was called home Nov. 18, 1962. Fred still resides in Lodi. They had 10 children.
Mary married Christ Diede. They farmed west of Hebron. They had five children. Christ was
called home, 1942, age 54. Mary was called home, 1974 in Lodi.

John married Emma Mack. They farmed southwest of Hebron, then moved to Hebron where they
were in the machinery business and the Gamble Store. Emma was laid to rest 1963, age 68. John
now lives with their only child, Ervin, in Mandan, N.D.

Adam married Hilda Mutschelknaus. They farmed southeast of Richardton. They moved to
Oregon in mid-’40's, after owning Gamble Stores in Wilton and Ashley. Adam sold real estate in
Oregon until his retirement. They had five children. Adam and Hilda still reside in Oregon.
William married Katie Mack. They farmed southeast of Richardton. They later operated a
Gamble Store in Wilton with the Adam Reichs before moving to Oregon in the early 40's. They
had one child. William passed away, 1971. Katie still lives in Oregon.
