CORNELIUS LUITHLE FAMILY
Cornelius Liuthle was born on Oct. 19, 1909 to Karl and Elizabeth Fischer Liuthle. His parents
homesteaded on (32-137-91). They lived in a sod house for several years. He was the fourth son
in a family of seven boys and one girl. The boys attended rural school and all worked together on
the farm until they started farming for themselves.

In 1932 he and Emma Stuber were married. Emma was born Dec. 22, 1913 to John and Rosina
Wolf Stuber of Golden Valley. They farmed the home place with his two brothers, Christof and
Benny. In 1946 Benny married and moved to a farm in Hettinger Co. and in 1948 Christof and
his family moved to the Henry Luithle farm.

In the 30's when they started for themselves, times were rough and sometimes it was hard to
make ends meet. Some years about all they harvested was the chicken feed but they kept going
and didn’t give up. Thistles were welcome those years for cattle feed.

Their family consists of two daughters. Helen was born in 1933 and Laura was born in 1944, ten
years later. Cornelius and Emma continued farming until 1960. That year they sold the farm to
his brother Christof and moved to Hebron. They built a new home and retired there where they
live today.

Helen is married to Reuben Winkler. For three years they farmed with Cornelius, then purchased
the George Junkert farm (22-137-91). Later they bought the Ted and Henry Krein farm on (28-
138-91) operating a grain and dairy farm for several years. They left Stark Co. in 1972 and
moved to Elgin where they now live. They have three boys: Larry, 23, of Miles City, Mont.;
Gary, 19, of Elgin; and Rodney, 14.

Laura is married to Lester Zimmerman. They live at Miles City, Mont. And have three girls:
Ramona, 13; Roxanne, 11; and Shannon, 1.

Cornelius and Emma enjoy their retirement. Emma keeps busy with her garden and does a lot of
quilting and craft work as a hobby. They also enjoy visiting their children and grandchildren.
