VINCENT AND MARY (RIDL) MARSH
Vincent, son of John Marsh and Antonia Kinzel Marsh, was born Jan. 17, 1893. He grew up on the farm homestead of his parents about eight miles northwest of Dickinson in Sec. 22, Twp. 140, R. 97. Attended country school for some time only, as those years the boys had to help with the farm work. Then he went into the service of his country for some time during World War I.

Mary Ridl, born Sept. 6, 1900, was the daughter of Joseph E. Ridl and Frances Kadrmas Ridl. When Vincent was discharged from the army we were married Oct. 15, 1919. I grew up on the farm homestead of my parents in N.E ΒΌ of Sec. 8, Twp. 140, R. 97. I attended a country school up to seventh grade; helped with the farm work and house work and took care of my younger brothers and sisters. We started farming his dad's farm and had some hard times with no rain for several years. The dust and sand was drifted and piled all around the fences and Russian Thistle rolling. There was no grass in the pastures. So to be able to survive we bought feed, milked cows, raised chickens, sold eggs, sometimes for nine cents a dozen; did gardening and sold vegetables to local stores and had a little left over to live on. Then one year we had some rain and a fair crop; but the wheat was only 19 cents a bushel. By then we had five children to raise and educate.

The children are: Eva, born Nov. 6, 1920; received her education in Dickinson and graduated from Dickinson High School. Eva married Val Loran and they are living in Seattle, Wash. Val and Eva have seven children; Carol Jean, Richard, Jim, Mary Jane, Joseph, Jerry and Rita, all living in Seattle, Wash. Val worked for Newspaper P.I. Washington.

Otto was born Oct. 23, 1922; graduated from Dickinson High School and left for Seattle, Wash. Where he graduated from the university . He married Patricia Graves. They have two sons, Eric and Conrad. Conrad was killed in a car accident when he was 18 years. Otto has also been in gardening and nursery business in Seattle, Wash.

Ella was born June 29, 1927 and graduated from Dickinson High School. She moved to Seattle where she married Robert Mulholland and they have five children, Theresa, Robert, Michael, Rodger and Jean. All are living in Seattle, Wash. Except Michael who is in a Wisconsin seminary.
Adam was born Sept. 28, 1930. He graduated from Dickinson High School and went to Seattle where he graduated from the university in research and chemistry. He married Helen Spenser and they have two children, John and Sarah. They live in Athens, Ohio where he is doing research at the Ohio University.

Martha was born Nov. 18, 1932, and attended schools in Dickinson. She married Walter Neihoff and they have five children, Margaret, Walter Jr., Joan, Susie and William. They live in Helena, Mont. Walter works on electric engineering and burglar alarms and such.

There were 21 grandchildren; two are deceased, Conrad Marsh and Richard Loran, a great-grandson, also by car accident. There are also 13 great grandchildren up to now.

In 1969 we celebrated our golden wedding anniversary. We still own our farm. Vincent is 84 years and I'm 76 years. We are retired and live at 912 Fairway St. for 13 years.

Times have changed, with some oil income times are better for us and the children, but we went through some hard times.
