MR. AND MRS. JOHN ADAM JACOBS
John and Olga Jacobs became residents of Taylor on Sept. 1, 1970. They had operated the store at Marshall in Dunn Co. for about 28 years and Olga was postmaster there for 24½ years. They purchased a house from Christ Heinert which had formerly been owned by Lester Jacobs. Although the Jacobs' have lived here only seven years they have always had an interest in Taylor as they came here to visit son Lester and other friends quite often.

Olga attended high school in Taylor from 1917 to 1920. She was graduated on June 20, 1920 with a class of four. The members of the class were Laura Dohrmann, Adam Gabe, Gertrude Leutz and Olga Odegaard.

Olga stayed at the Paul Enger home one school year, 1917-1918. The next year she and Frances Breckon stayed at the Andrew Esse home. During the fall of 1919 she tayed at the Henry Hecht home and in January 1920 she went to stay at the J. E. Lautz home until she graduated. This proved to be a lifelong friendship and as a result Olga felt that Taylor was a second home. In the fall of 1920 Olga went to teach the Jurgens school north of Taylor. She stayed one year at the Harry Hettenbaugh home and one year at the Tammen home while she taught this school. There were between 25 and 30 pupils in all eight grades. She spent many of her weekends at the Lautz home in Taylor and afterwards continued to come there for visits as long as the Lautzes lived in Taylor.
In about 1944 the Lester Jacobs' made their home in Taylor and John and Olga visited them frequently. So they feel they have really been a part of the Taylor community much longer than the seven years they have lived there.

The church at Marshall was a part of the Taylor parish for many years and this, too, made John and Olga feel they were at home in Taylor. Three of John's children attended school in Taylor. His two daughters, Leota and Bernadene are graduates of the Taylor High School of the class of 1939. Annabel, a daughter of John and Olga, also attended high school in Taylor and was graduated with the class of 1961. With all this association with Taylor it seemed natural to move to Taylor when they retired in 1970. The Taylor Water Department completed the water project in Taylor shortly after John and Olga moved there. A few years later the streets were paved (in 1976) so they have seen some improvements in Taylor since they came.

The grocery store was closed a few years after their arrival. Now an attempt is being made to start a cooperative store.
