WILLIAM L. KOSTELECKY D.D.S.
I was born Dec. 8, 1914 at home on Villard Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. Father was William Kostelecky, and mother was Harriett Kellogg Lee Kostelecky. Our final residence was 211-7th Avenue West. This was only two blocks from Dickinson Town and Country Club, across the road from Rocky Butte.

Golf became a major objective in my life and all my spare time was spent on the course. Golf was learned by being a caddy and many of my uncles were excellent golfers, such as John, Lewie, Anthony and my father William. Often you would hear the statement at various tournaments “Oh no, not another Kostelecky.” I played my father in several tournaments but I remember best the time he defeated me in seven extra holes. I was fortunate enough to win the state title five times to offset the record of four times by James Reuter, Jr. also of Dickinson. My father reached the finals once and was defeated and my winning, I know, thrilled him.

I attended the Dickinson public school until high school and in 1928 attended Pillsbury Academy until graduation in 1932. Bill Bowen and Harve Robinson attended Shattuck nearby and we had great fun on the N.P. back and forth to Minneapolis vacation times.

From 1932-1934. I was a student at Dickinson State Teachers College and was in four different sports. Harry Weinbergen was the coach and had good success seeing that his material to work with was rather limited.

I attended Northwestern Dental School 1934-1938 where I received my D.D.S. and B.S.D. degrees mainly because of a stimulus from Drs. Paul and Harlan Weir. I was captain of the NU golf team and we won the Big-Ten Championship, and finished second in national intercollegiate because one of our players signed an incorrect card. Many wonderful contacts are made through golf as well as wonderful memories. I have played in all major tournaments both open and amateur and the best was quarter fields both in western and amateur and national intercollegiate.

I have practiced dentistry since 1938-1953 in Fargo, N.D., 1953-1955 navy dental officer commander, 1955 — LaJolla, Calif., and still am practicing at present time, 1977.

I married a wonderful girl, Beatrice Barnard, in 1939, April 15th and had two wonderful children, a boy first and then a girl.

Robert Barnard Kostelecky, born in Fargo August 30, 1941, is now married and in the restaurant business and has one child, a boy, and lives in Las Vegas, Nev.

Linda Lee Strauss was born in Fargo, Dec. 11, 1944. Married to a lawyer and has one child, a girl, lives in LaJolla.
