JOHN ERDLE JR.
John Erdle Jr., son of John and Lucia Messmer Erdle was born in a home on John F Zimmerman farm (where Emil Hoerner now lives) on Nov. 23, 1923. He went to grade school at St. Mary's and graduated from Assumption Abbey in 1942. He was drafted into the army and arrived at port of entry. Fort Schnelling Minnesota on May 13, 1944. He received his basic training at Little Rock, Ark., and Fort Benning, Ga. He was assigned to Company A. 60th Infantry, Regiment 9th Division and they were sent overseas in France, Germany and Austria. He spent eighteen months overseas and received his honorable discharge at Camp McCoy Wisconsin, June 11, 1946.

He came home and farmed with his father. He married Adeline Magelky, daughter of Jacob P and Barbara (Commes) Magelky on Oct. 19, 1948 at St. Mary's Church, Richardton. They then lived with his folks and when his folks moved into town in 1952 he ran the farm. They are still living on the home place having bought it from his father in 1964.

In 1957, John sold out machinery and cattle and invested this in starting a John Deere Implement dealership in partnership with Ralph Messer, Richardton. He is still running this business along with farming.

John and Adeline were blessed with eight children; Jerry, medical technologist at Upland, Calif.; Kathy, Mrs. Tom Heimbuch Straubville, N.D.; Jim, working for the railroad, Dickinson; Mary, medical secretary, Dickinson; Lucy, legal secretary. Riverside, Calif.; Karen, a student at N.D.S.U., Fargo, and Tim and Tess at home.
