JOHN DOLL FAMILY
John (1894-1974) was born to Conrad and Catherine Doll in Katharinental, Russia on March 9, 1894. At the age of 19, John and his family came to America in July, 1913.

Margaret (1896) was born to Ludwig and Catherine Dinius on Dec. 23, 1896 in Speier, Russia. At the age of two she came with her parents to America and they settled in a small German community called Yucca, which was situated north of Mandan.

John and Margaret were married on Nov. 6, 1917 at the Rosebud Catholic Church by Father Kopp. In later years John purchased this same church and moved it to the Matt Doll's farm and converted it into a granary.

John and Margaret moved to Sweet Briar to farm. They farmed there for one season and not being able to make a go of it, they moved back to Yucca on a farm and the family started coming.
On Oct. 2nd, 1918 Margaret gave birth to the first 296 of six daughters. She was named Othelia after Margaret's younger sister. Two years later she gave birth to the first of five sons, George on June 24, 1920. And so about every two years the stork made a trip to John and Margaret's house. A brown eyed red head with freckles was delivered on Feb. 6, 1922. They named her Kathryn after both grandmothers.

Later they found out the grass was greener in the far northwest. They moved to Otter Creek about 30 miles away. Here they remained for 25 years the farm known as the home place, where George, the oldest son, now lives. Here they spent the fruitful years of their lives. The stork again visited on Sept. 8, 1924 to deliver Joseph. On June 24, 1926 Libarous was born now known as Lee. Once again Gramma Doll, John's mother who was a midwife, was summoned to help deliver another son, Mathais on Aug. 1, 1929. On Oct. 7, 1931, Gramma Doll by then, living close by to Margaret and John's farm, made the hurried trip again to see a dark haired girl named Melfrieda. She was named after John's sister who had just professed her vows as a nun. The depression years were upon them and going got a little rough. John used his trusty shotgun to hunt rabbits for food. Margaret, being a German housewife, was able to make many a meal with a sack of flour. Again, Margaret received more help, when a blonde, brown eyed daughter, Magdalene, was born Nov. 22, 1933. She was named after Margaret's older sister. On Dec. 23, 1935 Margaret presented John with an early Christmas present, a daughter named Celestine known as Sally. By 1938 better times were coming along and also on April 19, 1938 another daughter came. She was named Bertha after John's departed sister. She then remained the baby of the family as in 1942 Jonathan was born and died shortly after birth.

Now Margaret and John began to sigh a breath of relief. By then the oldest girl, Tillie, was working in Bismarck followed soon by Kay and George, the oldest boy, went to war. The rest of the family helped John with the farm work. In 1945 John and Margaret and their five youngest children moved to Richardton. They lived in the house now owned by Louis Treiber 229 4th St. N„ Richardton, so the children could attend school there, but every summer after was spent on the farm. All the children eventually married and six of the children live on farms. The four sons and Sally live north of New Salem. Millie lives north of Richardton. Maggie and Kay made their home in Seattle, Tillie in Peoria, Illinois and Bertha in Litchville, N.D. In 1967 John and Margaret celebrated their 50th Anniversary in Richardton. Margaret resides now at the Marion Manor Nursing Home in Glen Ullin. She now has 62 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

Their children are as follows: Othilia married William Blasek in 1945 and has two boys and two girls; George married Eugiana Hoffmann in 1945 and has five boys and five girls; Kathryn married Melvin Zahow in 1949; Joe married Helen Zander in 1946 and has six boys and three girls; Lee married Lorraine Hauck in 1947 and they have five boys and six girls; Matt married Ann Sturn in 1950 and they have four boys and four girls; Millie married Adam Hauck in 1950 and they have four boys and three girls; Maggie married William Miller in 1960 and has three boys; Sally married Lawerence Forster in 1955 and have four girls and three boys; Bertha married Henry Friedt in 1958 and have two girls and one boy.
