JACOB MESSER SR. FAMILY
Bernhart Messer was born in 1787 in Beresan colony, Rohrbach Baden, Germany and
immigrated to Karlruhe, Russia in the year 1840. He married Katherine Muth, born in 1783.
They had a family of five children. Jacob Messer was one of them.
Jacob Messer Sr. was a boy of 13 years when they left Baden, Germany to make their home in
the village of Karlsruhe, Russia in the year 1840. He was married to Eva Erkroth. They, with a
family of nine, left Russia for the United States and came to Richardton in 1901. They took up a
homestead 20 miles south of Richardton (6-137-91), the same land where one of the 4th
generation now makes his home. Jacob Messer, Sr. died March 29, 1909. Mrs. Messer lived to a
ripe old age of 86 years. She then made her home with her youngest son, John, who later moved
to Portland, Oreg. She died in 1935
