GRANT G. GULLICKSON
Grant G. Gullickson, son of Lewis and Clara Knudson Gullickson, was born Oct. 2, 1920 on the family homestead north of Taylor. He graduated from Taylor High School in May 1939.

Grant joined the Navy on Nov. 28, 1939, as an apprentice seaman and advanced through the ranks to Commander, having served in all the enlisted pay grades in the Navy at that time.
Prior to World War II, he served on the battleship U.S.S. Mississippi and transferred to destroyers in Jan. of 1942 and remained in destroyer type ships until 1949. He survived the sinking of the U.S.S. Corry (DD463) while supporting the landings on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944.

Grant earned the following medals: European-Africa-Middle East (5 stars). Secretary of the Navy commendation, Asiatic Pacific, American Defense (Bronze A), Philippian Liberation, American Theatre, Good Conduct, (3 stars), Navy Occupation Service Medal, Viet-Nam Service medal for operation Sea Dragon, Middle East Medal (for Lebanon operation 1958).

He served as Chief Engineer of the presidential command ship. U.S.S. Northampton for 29 months, Chief Engineer of the world's first super carrier, U.S.S. Forrestal (CVA 59). He completed 30 years of Naval Service in Nov. 1969.

In April 1970 he commenced his second career in a Regional Shopping Center in Norfolk, Va. At the present time he is the general manager of the shop center.

He is married to the former Beatrice Menard of Taunton, Mass. They have two sons; Gregg, 30, who graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in June 1969; Gary 26, of Virginia Beach, Va. And one daughter, Gigi 16, at home with her folks in Virginia Beach, Va.
