BELOVED BONDAGE

BELOVED BONDAGE

Text

BELOVED BONDAGE
Oh, Earth, you hold me in your hand
I know someday, I must from thee part
But hard toil and tilling of my land
Is as much a part of me as my heart.
Spring comes, Earth awakens from its sleep
And humbly I try to help Nature's hand
By planting seeds and plowing rich earth deep.
God does the rest, by Him I'll stand.
Folks tell me, “Sell your land and you will be free, ”
But what is money, when years of toil
Has bound one with a bond no one can see?
I am a daughter of the soil
So all you lovers of the soil awake.
Remember our forefathers fought to hold.
So let us go forward, our burdens take
With courage that is brave and bold.
