MR. AND MRS. CLEMENT WENDEL
Clement Wendel emigrated from Crimea Russia in 1907. His parents were Joseph and Frances (Markel) Wendel. Clement settled on a farm in the Dunn County area some 25 miles northwest of Dickinson. In 1916, he worked for the railroad as a rock layer and blacksmith. In 1920 he became a citizen of the United States then moved to Dickinson and worked for Lisko blacksmith which is now the Lisko Inn Cafe.

In 1921 he married Philomina Cinder, daughter of Frank and Mary (Karsky) Cinder who farmed east of New Hradec. Mrs. Wendel was born Oct. 4, 1900. In 1924 Mr. and Mrs. Clement Wendel moved to South Heart where he purchased a livery stable from B. O. Thorkelson, making it into a blacksmith shop, which he operated until his death on October 6, 1950. He was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery. His wife resides at the Dickinson Nursing Home.

Mr. and Mrs. Wendel had four children; William, born on June 25, 1922, Edwin born on Aug. 1, 1926, Robert born on April 10, 1930, and Margaret born on Oct. 6, 1940. Bill drives a school bus, is city auditor of South Heart and does mechanic work. Edwin is working on the railroad in Burbank, Washington. Robert is auditor of Beulah, and Margaret and her husband Emil reside in Glendive, Mont.
