MR. AND MRS. JOHN C THOMPSON
Mr. and Mrs. John C Thompson and daughter, Hollace, moved to Dickinson from Hebron, in 1943. He was employed to teach mathematics at Dickinson State College at that time. Prior to that he had been superintendent of the Fordville Public Schools and the Hebron Public Schools.

John was born Aug. 9, 1911 at Backoo, N.D. and he was the son of William and Mabel (Craven) Thompson. Earlene (Ault) Thompson was the daughter of Michael and Mae (Quinnell) Ault, and she was born June 21, 1915 at Cavalier, N.D. They were married May 30, 1937 at Cavalier. They had two children, Hollace and Sylvia.

John and Earlene graduated from Cavalier High School, attended Mayville State College and he received his M.S. degree from the University of North Dakota and did further study at the University of Minnesota, University of Wyoming and the University of Wisconsin. He served as chairman of the science and mathematics division at Dickinson State College until his death on Aug. 3, 1975.

He was a member of several organizations which included: North Dakota Education Assn.; National Education Assn.; Lambda Delta Lambda; Mathematical Association of America; National Council of Teachers of Mathematics; past president of the North Dakota Academy of Science; past president of the Dickinson Lions Club, and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He held several offices in the United Methodist Church and was one of the first college faculty members to receive a National Science Foundation Grant.

Earlene is a member of the United Methodist Church, Chapter B, PEO sisterhood. Order of Eastern Star, College Faculty Wives and St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary. She was employed by the Dickinson Press for three years and is co-editing the Stark County History Book.

Hollace and Sylvia graduated from the Dickinson Public Schools, and Dickinson State College. Both taught schools in this area. Sylvia married Gaylord Fridley, Dickinson, and is living in Spencer, Iowa. Hollace married Harold Paulsen, Moline, Ill., and they live at Pewaukee, Wisc. They have two children, Stacey Earlene and John Harve.
