JOHN AND DOROTHY SHERAPA SEMERAD
John Semerad came with his parents to Crimea about 1866 from Moravia. Although Crimea was a very beautiful country and the emigrants prospered, the majority didn’t feel at home in the land of the Czars and looked for other lands to settle. At this time many thousands of families of German descent left Russia for the Dakota Territory.

The Semerad family came, 1891. They settled 17 miles northwest of Dickinson on a homestead. John and Dorothy Semerad had seven children. They were John, Joseph, Anna, Mary, Helen and Philamenia. When son John became of age, he took up a homestead, where he made his home.
John married Anna Frenzel, Nov. 10, 1900. Anna was born at Alexanderoffka, Crimea 1883. Anna's parents were Ferdinand and Justine Binstock Frenzel. Anna's grandparents were Vincent and Victoria Frenzel.

Anna, Mary and Philamenia were married at Alexanderffka, Crimea and came with their husbands to N.D. in 1900.

Anna married Anton Kubishta and homesteaded eight miles southeast of Dickinson on Antelope Creek.
Mary married John Kubishta and settled southwest of Dickinson, and had ten children. Later they retired into Dickinson and are buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Philamenia married Samuel Podolanchuk and lived northwest of Dickinson. They had one son, Jim Podolanchuk, Dickinson. All the sons and daughters of John and Dorothy Semerad homesteaded in N.D.
Helen married John Kostelecky.
John and Anna added two more quarter sections to the homestead. John passed away April 16, 1917 at 38. Two years later his oldest children passed away during the flu epidemic. The death of her husband and two children was hard on the widow. She remained with the children on the farm. Nov. 5, 1925 she married her brother-in-law. They had one daughter, Josephine. 1934, they retired into Dickinson. Joseph Semerad passed away in 1936 and Mrs. Anna Semerad passed away in 1941.
John and Anna Frenzel Semerad were blessed with 12 children.
Rosalie passed away Aug. 20, 1918.
Adolph passed away Nov. 25, 1918.
Margaret married Clarence Fard, had no children, and live in Mesa, Ariz.
Minnie married Robert Kaisershot, live in Spokane, Wash., and have no children.
Justine married Jack Frolick, had six children and 18 grandchildren. Jack passed away and Justine married Julius Metz. Justine passed away Oct. 11, 1976.
Vincent married Sophie Faiman. They had six daughters, 22 grandchildren and live in Dickinson.
Emma married Joe J. Karsky. They had two children. Joe J. Karsky lives in Missoula, Montana. Emma passed away Oct. 25, 1923.
Victor married Emma Kostelecky. They have three children and live in Dickinson.
Edward married Alice Kostelecky. They had three children and live in Spokane, Wash.
Eleanor married Charles Kudrna and lives in Dickinson. They have four children. Eleanor passed away April 10, 1970.
Dorothy married Victor Kudrna. They had five children and live in Dickinson.
Jennie married Charles Pavlish. They had three children. Charles passed away Sept. 12, 1973.
Josephine married Laudie Jablonsky. There were three children, daughters. Josephine passed away June 4, 1965.
Anna Semerad marned Anton Kubishta. She was the daughter of John and Dorothy Sherapa Semerad. Anna and Anton had 10 children. Anna and Anton Kubishta are buried at St. Joseph Cemetery, Dickinson.
Mary married Joseph Roller and they had 16 children: Anton, Emma, Alois, Adolph, Rose, Jacob, Cecelia, Pauline, Nick, Joseph, Elfred, Thed, others passed away in infancy. Anton passed away at Hope. His father, Joseph, also passed away at Hope. Mary passed away at Ellendale, N.D.
Anna married Joseph Schulz. They lived at New England and retired in Dickinson. They had 16 children: Catherine, Alois, Anton, Clara, Nick, Pete, Margaret, Mageline, Theodore, Elfred, Adam, Mary, Rose and Elizabeth. Anna and Joseph Schulz are buried in St. Joseph Cemetery, Dickinson.
Catherine married Bergerine Roller and they had four children: Clara, Albert, Valentine and John. Bergerine Roller drowned in the Heart River. Catherine then married John Schwindt. They had two children, Catherine and Nick Schwindt. Catherine Kubishta Schwindt is buried at Yakima, Wash.
Josephine married Nick J. Letang and had four children. Barbara, Helen, Mathias and Joseph. Josephine and Nick Letang passed away and are buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dickinson.
Alois married Anna Bergman. They have seven boys and one girl. Alois passed away and is burried at Salem, Oreg.

Barbara married Leo Pelzel and moved to Yakima, Wash. They had five children: Constantine, Nick (who passed away at 17), Helen, Betty and Maricarin (who passed away at 12). Barbara and Leo Pelzel passed away and are buried at Yakima.

Joseph married Elizabeth Dassinger. They had five children: Elfred, Rosemary, Helen, Esther and Edward. Joseph passed away and is buried in St. Joseph’s cemetery, Dickinson.
Theresa married John Wolery and live at Ontario, Oreg. They have five children: Josephine, Elsie, Dorothy Gloria and Leo.

Emma married August Frenzel and had three children; Elizabeth, Donald and Clarence. August passed away and is buried at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dickinson. Emma lives at Yakima, Wash.
Rose passed away during the diphtheria epidemic.
