MR. AND MRS. W. J. RAY
William J. Ray, proprietor of the St. Charles Hotel, was born in Minneapolis, June 17th, 1887. Mr. Ray received his education in the common schools of Minneapolis and St. John's University of College-ville, Minn. In 1884, the family moved to Dickinson, where for four years Mr. Ray worked as assistant postmaster to his father. For the past nine years he has been engaged in the hotel business, and is one of the best known hotel men in the state.

Mr. Ray has served as a member of the state legislature, and has also been identified with city politics as alderman. He has been treasurer for Dickinson Lodge B.P.O. Elks, since its organization.
Editor's note: The Ray family stayed in the hotel business until recent years. Francis J. Ray and his son Frank Ray presently reside in Dickinson. Francis's father, the late Frank Ray was a son of W. J. Ray. Dr. Larry Reichert whose mother was Elanor Ray, and a daughter of W. J., also resides in Dickinson as does his son, Tom Reichert. Dr. Don Reichert, also a grandson of W. J., is a practicing physician in Dickinson.
