JOSEPH AND TERESA MEDUNA
Joseph and Theresia (Kralicek) Meduna were born in Czechoslovakia, later going to Russia, region of Crimea to the village of Czechahrad. It was from this village in 1899, they came to America. Joseph had been trained in the leather trade, which came in handy in settling in a new country.
Accompanying them to this country were seven children, Frank, Mary, Pauline, Adolph, Vincent, Alexander, and Minnie, ranging in age from six weeks to 14 years.

They homesteaded north of South Heart. Joseph became a naturalized citizen in September of 1907, along with seven of their children, two of which had been born since their arrival in the United States. Of this family, only two are still living, Minnie, Mrs. Stephen Kovash, who was six weeks old when her parents came to America and Albina, Mrs. Andrew T. Ridl, who was born in the United States. One son, Adolph, was the victim of a mysterious disappearance. He was to be a witness for a trial for horse stealing in Medora and was jailed for his own safety, but the roof of the jail was torn off by a gang and Adolph was never seen or heard from again. This escape was reported in the Dickinson Press in September of 1914.

Joseph's wife, Theresia, died in August, 1923. Joseph died in June of 1940. They are both buried in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.
