MELVIN MAYER FAMILY
Melvin Mayer, a Gladstone native, was born March 12, 1939 at Dickinson. He is the son of Philip Mayer and Katie Dassinger Mayer. He attended the Gladstone schools, and after graduating from Gladstone High School in 1957 he went to work at Hauck Millwork in Dickinson where he was employed 10 years.
In 1960 he married Joan Binstock in the St. Pius Church at Schefield. She is the daughter of Joe M. Binstock and Ida Jahner Binstock. In 1961 their first child was born, a daughter, Janel Marie. She was born with a heart ailment and died April, 1962. Lyle Melvin was born Nov. 20, 1962, Greg Allan, Jan. 7, 1964, Jeffry James, May 21, 1967 ana Kristin Marie was born on Jan. 29, 1974. The three boys are attending the Trinity school system in Dickinson. In 1969 Melvin went into partnership with Wilfred Kovash and formed the K and M Cabinetry, located north of the city.
