THE BEACH FAMILY
Orville and Tessie Beach and children moved to Dickinson from Beach, N.D., 1916. Orville was brakeman and conductor for Northern Pacific Railroad until his death, 1949. Tessie was active in the Methodist Church, member of Eastern Star and Ladies Auxiliary of Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. She lives in Spokane, Wash. There were six children in this family.

Lyle, oldest, graduated from Dickinson High School, 1926. He worked at Briquetting Plant and highway department. His wife is Alva Gullickson of New England. They have two children, Lyla Moon and Karen De La Torre. Lyle and family have lived in California since 1941. He became a meter repairman. He lives, in retirement and poor health, in Huntington Beach.

Irene, only girl in the family, graduated in 1928 from high school. She worked for two years in the office of Dr. A. E. Spear. She first married Harry Schak in St. Paul, Minn. They had Donna Beth Kringle, Patricia Pluff, David and Orville Schak. She married secondly, Karl Postel, and lives in Carson, Calif.
Donovan, class of 1929, worked in the Briquetting Plant and the Dickinson Grocery. He married Opal Parkins of Mandan. They have Monte, Shirley Chip-man, Laura Sortino and Judy Dwyer. Donovan and family have lived in California since 1942. He has been a mechanic, carpenter and now manager of a mobile home park in Carlsbad.

Elwood, class of 1930, attended Dickinson College. He worked at the experiment farm. Later he became a welder. One of the projects he worked on was Garrison Dam. Elwood first married Eva Shutter. They had Dale (1938-1973), Dennis and Marlys Canfield. Later he married Edith Fall and had one son Duane. Edith died and Elwood married De Etta Wilson. They live in retirement, in Aberdeen, S.D.

Kenneth, attended high school and worked at the experiment farm. He has lived in California since 1940. He married Frances Clark. They have two sons, Orville and Bruce. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 33 years. He is now retired and lives in Montebello.

After the children grew up and left home, Tessie and Orville lived here until March 1949 when he entered Northern Pacific Hospital in St. Paul, Minn., where he died in August 1949. The family lived at 530 Sims Street and still call Dickinson home, childhood memories poignant, warm and the tie that binds is baby Everett Floyd who rests in Dickinson Cemetery.
