ADRIAN SIMON FAMILY
Adrian John Simon, third born of four children, the only son of John Edward and Elsie Ann (Prokopec) Simon, was born at Austin, Minn., on June 22, 1929. He attended elementary and secondary schools in Owatonna and Blooming Prairie, Minn. He graduated from Dunwoody Institute, Minneapolis, Minn., in architectural drafting in 1949 and joined the Heaton Lumber Company of Dickinson.

Adrian married Ellen Wieglenda on Jan. 22, 1951 at Dickinson. Ellen, the seventh of eight children, was born Oct. 2, 1929, to Fred A. and Katie (Lambing) Wieglenda at Lefor, N.D. She began school there then moved with her family to rural Gladstone, where she completed her elementary and secondary education. She was employed by F. W. Woolworth Company before marriage.

Adrian served two years, during the Korean Conflict, with the 167th Infantry, 31st Division, Service Company, at Fort Jackson, S.C. and Camp Atterbury, Ind. He was discharged with a sergeant rating and returned to Heaton Lumber as manager.

A. D. Heaton died in 1965, after a lengthy illness, during which Adrian spent many hours caring for a man he much admired. In 1969 Heaton Lumber was sold by the heirs, terminating 20 years of employment there.

In 1969, Adrian began employment with Carlson Construction Company in Dickinson. The company opened an office in Bismarck in 1974, and the Simon family moved there in 1975.

Both Adrian and Ellen have been active in civic and church activities. Adrian has been vice president of Northwestern Lumberman's Association, board of directors member of N.D. Lumberman's Association, a member of kiwanis, Rotary Dickinson Jaycees, Elks Club, American Legion, Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department, president of St. Patricks Patrons Club, usher at St Patrick's and Queen of Peace Churches in Dickinson and Church of Corpus Christi in Bismarck.

Ellen has been president of Dickinson Mrs. Jaycees, member of Camp Fire Girls board of directors, leader of Camp Fire groups, parish council member at Queen of Peace church, Trinity High Mardi Gras dinners chairman, Catholic Daughters member, Girl Scout Troop leader, parish guild member. She is employed in the medical records department at St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck.

Children of Adrian and Ellen Simon are: Adrian John Jr., born July 16, 1951. He attended St. Patrick's Grade, Trinity High, and NDSS at Wahpeton. While in the army he was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. and Fitzimmons Army Medical Center, Denver Colo. He is employed by Parkway Ford in Dickinson.

Jeffrey James, born May 28, 1953, attended St. Patrick's Grade and Trinity High. He also served in the army during the Vietnam conflict, being stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, San Antonio, Texas; Fitzimmons Army Medical Center, Denver, and Camp Kue Hospital on Okinawa. He attends UND and is employed as X-ray technician at United Hospital in Grand Forks.

Jon Joel, born March 25, 1956, attended St. Patrick's Grade and Trinity High. He married Ruth Olson on June 4, 1976, at Dickinson. Jon is employed at Bismarck Airport in the security and maintenance departments.

Mary Clare, born Dec. 1, 1957, attended St. Pat-rick's Grade. Trinity High, and is attending Bismarck Junior College. She has been active in sports, Camp Fire Girls, and Young Life programs, and is employed at a local dress shop, Jean Nicole.

James Joseph, born Aug. 22, 1961, attended Jefferson Elementary, Trinity Grade, and is attending St. Mary's Central High in Bismarck. An accident injury has sidelined him from sports. He enjoys playing drums and working on cars.

Joseph Julian, born June 23, 1964, died at the age of four, and is at rest in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Dickinson.

Elizabeth Ann (Liz), born May 10, 1965, attended Trinity Grade, and is attending Cathedral Grade. Liz has been a Camp Fire Girl and Girl Scout.
