ALBERT A. PRIVRATSKY FAMILY
Albert A. Privratsky was born Oct. 31, 1919 to Adolph Privratsky and Mary Splichal Privratsky. Following the footsteps of his father, who had herded cattle on the land he eventually homesteaded, he herded cattle and sheep on his parents place, mostly through the little Badlands that are nearby. The Privratsky farm was located seven miles south of South Heart on Section 14 until 1934 when it was moved to Section 15. Albert recalls building the rock barn that stands on his farm today. He helped in the building of the rock barn that consisted of hauling the prairie rocks by the wagon loads from the field to the barn site. Large circular shallow holes were dug on each side of the barn site. In these holes, water was carried. Horses were ridden around in it to make mud packing that went between the rocks.

In 1937, because of the depression years, Albert and his brother, William, joined the CCC camp and roamed from Bismarck to Medicine Lake, Mont., doing conservation work for the government. He recalls times, when picking Russian thistles from woven wire fences was the job for the day. In the winter of 1938-39, after returning from the CCC's, Albert and William got stranded in South Heart after a night out on the town in Dickinson. After taking the girls home, a storm had started and did not subside until the next morning when they had to walk home leaving the car behind in South Heart.
On Nov. 21, 1939 Albert married Anne Binstock at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Hradec. Anne was the daughter of Louis Binstock and Katherine Bren Binstock. After their marriage they lived on Albert's parents farm. In 1942, Albert and William rented the farm from their mother, Mary Privratsky. Albert bought a new two bottom Ford tractor that cost him $700 and with his brother, William bought an eight foot John Deere combine at this time. In 1944 William moved to a farm west of Dickinson and in turn Albert bought his father's place in 1946. Albert and brother, Frank then bought a self-propelled Massey Harris combine which was probably one of the first ones in the area . As property increased. Albert bought his first diesel tractor, a John Deere 820. This was in 1959. Through hard work, property increased further and in 1971, Albert bought his first four-wheel drive tractor, a 145 Versatile. In 1977, he and his three sons operate over 3,000 acres.

Albert and Anne brought up seven children on their farm: Robert, 1940, husband of Edna Schmidt; Diane. 1944, wife of Wayne Jilek; Janet, 1948, wife of Ronald Ehlis; Daniel, 1953: Ben, 1955, husband of Roberta Lish; Beverly, 1959, and Jacqueline, 1964.
